Bedding Busy Lizzies are making a comeback – just years after plants were wiped out by downy mildew.
Thompson & Morgan pulled the plug on Impatiens walleriana in 2012, but is bringing the popular bloom back this year.
A T&M spokesman said: “We were the first supplier to withdraw I. walleriana and much of the industry followed; sadly not all.
“We have been growing I. walleriana ‘Accent Mixed on our Suffolk trial ground and other locations since we withdrew the product at the end of 2011.

The company will now offer the popular Busy Lizzies variety in both its seed and young plant range.
A spokeswoman for rival firm Suttons said: “We withdrew for one year then re-introduced. We give customers the choice of Impatiens ‘Florific’ which is downy mildew-resistant, or I. walleriana.”
Technical manager at Mr Fothergill’s, Alison Mulvaney, said: “We didn’t withdraw them [I. walleriana] but reduced our range.
“We felt that customers still wanted to buy, and make their own decision.
“Most were aware of the risk of downy mildew. We have a limited range of walleriana types in retail and mail-order.
