Channel 5 has revealed plans to expand into TV gardening.

TV gardener David Domoney (copyright: IPC)

It has appointed garden designer David Domoney to present Garden ER – a run of eight, half-hour programmes starting at 7.30pm on Wednesday 13 July.

David is best-known as resident gardener on GMTV, This Morning, Better Homes and House of Horrors.

Garden ER will feature total garden makeovers while viewers’ garden gaffes will be fixed.

A special feature called Pimp My Shed will see David breathe life into redundant sheds.

“Channel 5 has not really done gardening before, so it is dipping its toe in the water,” said producer Kerry Richardson, a former producer of Gardeners’ World and Around the World in 80 Gardens with Monty Don.

Kerry said Garden ER will be aimed at “non-gardeners or people with little gardening knowledge who may feel intimidated by other garden programmes”.

“We are not going for the Gardeners’ World audience,” Kerry added.

“Channel 5 believes David can hold the attention of non-gardeners and inspire them with his can-do attitude. Channel 5’s audience is young and does not incorporate a traditional gardening audience.

“David is not precious about gardening. He believes you don’t need to be an expert to have a great garden – simply imagination, a few tricks and a sense of adventure.”

Please could you help my son and his family, they moved in to a three bedroom council house the garden in need of a make over, the reason I am asking is my grandchildren both have cystic fibrosis, my 9 year old grandson has spent most of his time in hospital as he didn’t get diagnosed until he was 2years of age, the garden is a very important part of their exercise programme and help their lungs, I would love to be able to help them, but money if a problem, me and son work al hours, so have no time, while my daughter in law is up hospital with my grandson and her mother look after my granddaughter, it would be so nice for them to have really special place to play, please help

This is my first house after living with my parent’s, and it’s far too much for me with a 9 month old baby things are getting out of control. Iv tryed my hardest to tidy things up and make a start but no matter where I start it doesn’t make a difference.
My partner works so doing it on my own is very difficult juggling it around my daughters needs. It’s getting me really down and depressed at the fact that we can’t have a nice garden, it woudl be nice to be able to let my daughter out there but the state it’s in I can’t do so.
    Please can you help.

Hi there, I have recently moved into a top floor flat that has access to a shared garden. It’s the usual story of no-one owning it so no-one really does any work hence it’s overgrown and full of weeds. I just spend an hour with a push mower and really didn’t make much difference! It’s a huge space with two separate bits of grass and some woodland and also two sheds. I have dreams of a magical hideaway/shed pub but it’s way too much work on my own. Can you help?

Hi, HELP. I am 61 years old and struggling to maintain 3 gardens. Besides my own garden I help both of my single daughters with their gardens. My youngest daughter has recently bought her home. The garden is large and overgrown with a stream running all the way alongside it and it has many mature trees. I am at a loss as to where to begin. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m writing on behalf of a friend, my friend lost her dad to cancer 5years ago, she now has the house she grew up in, 4 as many years as she can remember it always had a pigeon shed(which no longer remains) and can never remember having a nice garden for her self and brothers. She now has family of 4 boys of which there dad walked out on them last year, why she was pregnant, she’s finally getting her house sorted, but this would be a great relief if her self and very Adventous boys had a garden to relax and play in.

We hhve bought a small coaatge in the Cotswolds and have spent 2 years doing it up. Now it is time for the poor neglected garden. We have 3 areas of challenge – a terraced / sloping rocky area, an old croquet lawn which we are hoping to grow vegetables in…and the area around the cottage which just needs some life and areas of interest. We would love to have some of your inspiration please!

My husband has pain 24/7 from Rheumatoid and osteoarthritis for 20+ years and recently got septicaemia, nearly died and had to have 4 months off work. This means he can no longer even do basic mowing and weeding around the yard let alone put in the raised veggie garden and plants we had planned to do. I had to have 2 months off (unpaid)to look after him so, with medical bills we can’t even afford for someone else to do the work. It would be great if he could get some support from your show.

Hi one of my best friends, a single mum with a terrible ex, was last year diagnosed with MS. She sacrifices everything to make sure her illness doesn’t effect her daughter but unfortunately this doesn’t extend into her garden. Do you think you could possibly help with this? I know it would mean the world to her that she could have some where for her daughter to play and for her to relax.

We have a 3 terraced garden with a river at the bottom which then sweeps up to the top of a mountain. The aspect is beautiful.

I have a rare skull, brain & spine condition that has resulted in severe nerve damage in my legs. Though I can walk & ‘do’ steps, just very slowly!

Last year we adopted a baby, who is now two, and I would really love to enjoy our garden with him as normal young family. I see our friends with young family’s enjoying their gardens & wish that I could provide the same for mine.

We’ve managed to build a small deck on the top level which I can access, but the rest is just too overwhelming for us. Most of garden stands used and weedridden. We simply don’t know where to start.

I grew up with a large garden & I know how much they add to people’s quality of life.

I know an expert could create something truly spectacular.

    Thanks.

  • Hi there please please consider my daughters garden for a makeover she’s not long moved into a council home and has spent every nit of her maternity pay and savings making her home fit and habitable for herself her husband and two children but she’s now totally skint and owes me a lot of money so I can’t afford to pay for her garden to be done, it is a very large garden but is also sloping and will take a lot of effort time and money, my 8 year old grand daughter has a secret garden bedroom and would love this in a real garden after 7 years of trying for a 2nd child and a miscarriage my 8 month old grandson jack was born he is named after captain jack sparrow and a pirate ship would be lovely for him and my daughter has an image of an Indian themed garden with lots of colour and ornaments. Please help!

    Please help,
My Mum used to be a very active and positive person, She always worked more than one job to make ends meet and provide for my 2 siblings and me, However about 6 years ago her Epilepsy became much more aggressive and she is now on many tablets which causes her many side effects leaving her very frail for 54 she lacks energy and is worried about leaving the house on her own incase she has a fit.
On top of her illness and medication, within the last 4 years she has lost her Farther, who was a massive support in her life, her partner of 10 years also left her because he is dying of Cancer and he didn’t want to put her through that journey. She has also lost her job of where she worked for 25 years as the company was sold and now due to her illness she is unemployable, So she spends all of her time at home. As a result of all of these incidents my Mum slipped into a bit of depression and it effected her eating and she ended up in Hospital, It was heart breaking to see as My mum like this as she was the heart of our street and always such a positive strong person, helping everyone out

Since then I have moved back home temporarily to help her with her eating and managing her life, She has been so strong and is showing amazing progress for all she has had to deal with. She has been a great Mum to me over the years helping me through really difficult times, she also has 6 grandchildren that she adores. As her Children we would love to be able to create a better environment for her to spend her days in now she cannot work and has no income, however we are not in the situation financially to help. So a garden for her to get some fresh air and that the grandchildren can play in so she can enjoy them would be an amazing gift..

I really think something like this would restore her faith in life again and put her back on the right path, this would mean so much to her and would put that sparkle back into her life when at the moment she has nothing to really look forward to….

My Mum used to grow all her own veg and spend so much time in the garden but now it needs some tlc for her to get back in there and enjoy some fresh air again and give her something to do.

    With thanks

    Dear Garden team,

I would really appreciate if you would consider my Mum for one of your make over shows.

My Mum used to be a very active and positive person, She always worked more than one job to make ends meet and provide for my 2 siblings and me, However about 6 years ago her Epilepsy became much more aggressive and she is now on many tablets which causes her many side effects leaving her very frail for 54 she lacks energy and is worried about leaving the house on her own incase she has a fit, So for her to have a low maintenance nice garden would be a perfect solution for her to get some fresh air…

My husband and I are both in the armed forces and he is due to do his third tour of Afghanistan later this year. Our daughter will be 9mnths old when he goes and it will be a 6mnth tour meaning he’ll miss her first birthday and lots of other firsts that she’ll have during that time. Our garden at the moment is far from child friendly and I would love him to come home to a safe place he can play with her and make up for lost time.

Please help, We have just moved into my grandparents old house and every time we look out of my back window it really upsets me as my granddad once had a prize winning garden and after my granddads illness and a year of neglect it really is a shadow of it’s former self! There once was a gorgeous pond which is now overgrown and not safe for my two young boys! It really is such a shame to see especially when I have lots of pictures of what it was once like when my grandparents lived here!

Any help would be grateful bringing this once gorgeous garden back to how it used to be and for us all to enjoy and start our own memories Here

Hi, I would absolutely love to make the best out of my garden. We have done bit’s to it,and invested money on quality paving slabs, but has for the plant’s we just can’t get it right.None of the plant’s seem to be growing, and I have not got a clue when it comes to positioning. It is such a shame because I know it has the right potential to look stunning, but due to me having to rush it several years ago due to my daughter being poorly with a low immune system I knew we would have to get the garden to a decent state due to her not being able to visit parks, and public places.PLEASE HELP !

I am sending this in desperation. My 30 year old daughter Jemma is a single parent with two children. She moved into a council house almost one year ago after being on the list for over 10 years. The house was a complete mess which we have worked hard on just to make it livable but the garden is another story. Her housing officer said that she would get the garden cleared but she has since left and they are now refusing to help her.I love gardening but this is beyond me.My daughter hasent had it easy she found out that she has lupis when she gave birth to her second child after the baby was diognosed with neonatal lupis and her 1st child had over 40 fibrile convultions from the age of 10 months. She still works part time and tries to lead a normal life but suffers alot or joint pain, hair loss and gets very tired. She realy deserves some good luck for a change and i know it would mean the world to her and her children to get her garden sorted out. Please can you help ? With kind regards Tina.

We moved house in January. The house had been let and garden just left to grow in every direction. We started hacking away to clear it but it was never going to work with holly tree & seedlings, ivy everywhere, so we got some guys in and they have razed it to the ground so now we have a nice big patch of earth with a wall on both sides and a nice path down the middle, a blank canvas you might say ….. but we don’t know what to do with it!

I work full time and my husband works 6 days a week, we are looking to start a family after being married for 5 years. We bought our house and it has a good size garden. Unfortunately we have both realised we have no vision what so ever when it comes to gardening. Because we don’t know where to start we tend to neglect our garden and my husband wants to dig it all up and cover it in AstroTurf. He even suggested covering the whole area in green Tarmac. If we had a garden to be proud of I’m sure my husband Kev would spend his day off making it look good all year round and it would be an area for us to entertain in. Please save me from tons of Tarmac . X

Hi there, I’d absolutely love if you could make over my 70 year old Mum’s garden! My Mum was very green fingered and still absolutely loves her plants. With age she’s not been able to keep her garden as she would like. It’s overlooked by flats and over grown and now got to a stage where it’s too difficult to get back into shape. I had a baby recently so am unable to sort it out either. I would sooooo love if you could come and make over my Mums garden.. And she’d absolutely love it too. Cheers XXX

    Hi

we have a big garden, with an old air raid shelter. It is on a corner so is oddly shaped, and it slopes up the way. My husband and I have just not been able to do anything to make a real difference – our family have also tried to help but the garden really needs work.

We want to make the garden presentable and private, and a place where our kids can play safely.

We as a family have had a stressful last year due to personal issues, and would be so grateful if we could get some help to make a good summer for our kids out of what has been a hard year for them.

Any help would be appreciated, God Bless

  • Tracey Currie

    Hi
We have a large garden right on the corner, and is pre-war so has an old air raid shelter at the back. The garden is so large with so many trees – we don’t know where to start. Our kids are 8 & 6 now and we have never been able to give them the play area they deserve.
The last year has been very stressful for us personally, and I was ill for a while so everything got on top of us. It would mean the world to us to be able to give our kids what they deserve.
We would love if you could help us, and make a great summer from what has been a hard year for us and our kids.

    Thank you

    Hi

    Please could you help!!
We have lived in our home almost 8 years now and every year I aim to get our garden ready for summer. It never happens. I run out of ideas, enthusiasm, time and most of all money. We have a lovely sized garden with the potential for so much more.

This year I would especially like it to be nice as my little girl will be one and hopefully starting to walk around. I would love her to have a little play area.

Also this year I would just like somewhere nice for my husband and I to relax in the evenings and weekends and destress. We have had some very stressful events last year and this year.

Please help me to achieve my dream garden.

    Emma

    Hi

I was hoping that I could get some help with our garden.

We moved into our first house almost three years ago – we have made a start on the garden – when I say start I mean got rid of trees, bushes and a jungle of weeds that took over the garden. It is a sloping garden that slopes upwards.

There is a crazy paved patio area and then a wall approximately 3ft high then the garden slopes slightly. We have no gardening experience. We would be willing to use the little money that we do have to put towards the project unfortunately do not have enough to pay people to do it.

We do have family members that would be willing to help with the work but we have no knowledge on how to make this space workable. It is quite a big garden (by my standards anyway its a corner plot so kind of goes to the side as well) and would really appreciate any help or advice to make this garden a low maintenance haven that I can finally have my nephews and nieces (7 almost 8 of them) playing in as at the moment it is not safe for them. Even if it is just a section of the garden that is made safe.

From reading the other comments I know I probably won’t get the makeover as there are some people on here that I feel do deserve it more. However any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. If by a miracle I do get chosen for the show it would take a great weight off our shoulders.

Thank you and I wish everyone leaving comments and pleas good luck.

    hi
we are a family to relate to. Mum is single and iv come home as a mature student to study as physiotherapist. I have committed my life to help other like cerebral palsy children, stroke and major surgery and accident victims to recovery and improve their life. Now its time i help my mum but i cant afford to until i qualify. she loves all things fabulous sparkling and glamour. If you feel animal prints, gems and glamour could challenge your team and inspire creativity with no bounds so that the nation can see the garden need not be traditional simple or green then we are your family!

  • karli gibson

My mum has worked so hard to give us the best and she shows so much support in me starting a late career being a mature physiotherapy student. I have committed my life to helping others and improving their quality of life. But until I qualify I cant afford to repay my mum for her support in the shape of a garden she can enjoy.
We arent an extraordinary family we have our struggles and have pulled through like many others… we are relatable.
I want to help my mum make the mundane fabulous she loves glamour and sparkly things a true magpie at heart.
If you would like the oppurtunity to do some thing wacky and wild showing the nations gardens need not be traditional in the slightest sense..then please make my mum smile.

My daughter loved her garden always helping clean out rabbit hutches plant veggie and general maintenance. In 2011 age 11 my daughter went blind over a six week period no illness it devastated us all! She doesn’t do anything in the garden she used to do as she feels unsafe. She needs areas where she can potter around looking after her animals and helping with jobs. She would love a scented garden and raised beds to help her. We need her back in the garden she used to love it and it gave her so much joy.

  • Angela cranmer

Hi my daughter used to love being in the garden helping me. My daughter is 13 and in 2010 she went completely blind no illness over a six week period. She can’t excess the garden now and feels helpless! She has lots of rabbits and guinea pigs that she can’t excess some in sheds some in hutches but the runs are not accessible for her and all she wants to do is sit in with them and help clean the out llike she used to! She would love a scented garden a vegetable plot where she can help out! She needs a safe place to be as she was always outside and we need to give her the confidence to do it again. As a single mum who had to give up work to be her carer I don’t have the resources to give her what she needs and it breaks all of our hearts. I hope you can help us!

My daughter is a 21 year old working single mum to Tyler 20 months old. She was lucky enough to move into a councl flat with its own garden last Summer. The garden is small but very open with its boundary next to a public walking lane and separated by a flimsy metal fence. Tyler recently fractured his leg in a playground slide accident – should make a full recovery. Please make my daughters garden a safe, fun place for Tyler to play and my daughter to relax.

We are a family in need of a garden makeover.
We have two small children and live with my Uncle who I care for who has COPD which limits what he can do. Since living here with my Uncle he hasn’t been able to go outside as the garden isn’t wheelchair friendly. In fact it isn’t child friendly either. It would really make a difference to our family lives. We are just looking to make the space accessable for the whole family to enjoy. Please help.

  • Michele Griffin

I have no sob story although I do have a plate in my left wrist which is fixed and limits what I can do. However I still manage to cope with most things. I moved house last year and have been decorating but now I need to start on the garden and it is just boring. It is only small but has a garage in it and just grass. Please I need help with ideas and setting up so that I can then maintain it.

I am a mum of 5 boys the youngest being 3 months and the eldest 12. We bought a house 18 months ago and it needed totally gutting as the house was in such a state we had to move into my fathers 2 bedroom house with me being 8 months pregnant whilst my husband renovated the house as we couldn’t afford tradesmen. We have a lovely big garden but have run out of money, energy and time and would love a bit of help to finish the garden

  • Sarah Smallwood

Hello 🙂 We moved into our house a year ago which has a reasonably sized front and back garden, lots of plants/bushes and some unbelievable crazy wavy borders,we are finding somwhat difficult to keep under control, including a very large strange blob shape in the middle of the front lawn?? Don’t ask, we dont know why! We are not afraid of hard work and want to make it interesting and innovative but also more manageable.
There is a great old wall at the bottom of the back garden that could be made into a really interesting feature.
Maybe we could work together on developing something? Hope So!:-)
    Thanks, Sarah and Jon

I dont have any sad story to tell. Where my husband and I live, we have a pretty big garden with absolutely nothing in it other than a confifer and another tree but I dont know what it is. We did have some other trees but my husband has butchered them! Neither of us have a clue about gardening. He has attempted decking with pallets from work which I think looks like a boxing ring. Basically we need help and some inspiration on what to do with the space. Maybe an area to grow our own veg would be good so we can become self sufficient. I would be ever so grateful to be considered for a garden make over.

My boyfriend and I purchased our first house last year and moved into it in december. We have made good progress to the inside, but I have no idea where to start in the garden apart from the advice i got from my grandfather about pruning the roses in march . . . we have a few rose bushes, a garden shed but no window, asbestos roof garage, a little bit of lawn, a flower bed about 10 cms higher than the lawn filled with weeds, some crazy paving with 2 holes in and a few more miss matched items. I have friends who are willing to help, but we need some gardening knowledge to make it a fun, party garden so we can really enjoy our first home. I’d love to hear from you if you can help

  • Lydia and Marcus savva

Please can you help. We live in East Sussex. Our garden is sort of like a blank canvas, but nothing seems to grow in the heavy clay soil, apart from grass. There are lots of trees surrounding the garden. The garden slopes downwards around the peremiter. Its wide and shallow in shae. My mum and dad would love to be able to create a lovely exciting garden, but my mum has been to university for the past 3.5 years and is now a newly qualified nurse, she now works full-time and looks after 4teenagers!! The youngest has slight special needs. My Dad had suffered 3 heart attacks and had to have a triple-by-pass 3 years ago, and now has awful problems with his back and gets frustrated that he can’t do much. Could you help us please? My husband is self employed and very busy so he doesn’t get much time for gardenning and I am an ex primary school teacher with 5 children ranging from 17 down to 2 years old. We also have three labradors! We own a large house with about 2/3 acre of clay soil in a windy location in South West Walkes! I dream of having a wonderful, colourful garden and would happily work hard at maintaining it, but I desperately need some guidance to get me going in the right direction.
We are currently coming to the end of a very large extesion to our bradstone house and look forward to some groundwork to put the icing on the cake!

Please contact me if you think our project/ plight is of interest to you.

We have a beautiful big garden with huge enlisted pine trees. As we are next to the sea there is a lot of sand (which our mole appears to love – we don’t love him back!). Many of the shrubs are now too big and gangly & although I love gardening I could do with someone to inspire me on what to do next, I love lots of colour but it’s very green at the moment. Under the trees needs help as it’s like a little woodland but I don’t know what is the best things to plant to keep it’s wild look. I also love wildlife, we have pheasants, owls, foxes, and a huge variety of birds and butterflies who visit and nest which I encourage as much as possible. Come to sunny Skeggy you’d be very welcome 🙂

Hello, My sister inlaw lost her husband (my brother) to a sudden death last Feb at the age of 34. She was 5 months pregnant when she lost my brother and they also have a 3 year old boy. They had just bought a new house but she has managed to get all the work done on this while looking after the children and dealing with the loss of her husband to make the house nice for the children. She has been trying to get her garden fit for her and the children to be able to play out in this summer but to no avail as of the cost. I would do anything to be able to have this done for her and the children as it would be the icing on the cake and make life just that little bit easier for them all this summer time. Can you help?

i would love to have a garden makeover. i used to do all of the gardening prior to having a spinal cord injury 8 yrs ago , my husband doesnt share my love for gardening . out of necessity we moved to a bungalow two years ago and gained a reasonable sized family garden, however it saddens me that it is just bumpy grass. i would love someone to create a garden that i could work on . a garden with high flower beds so that i can look after the plants . . and create some areas of interest. as well as a quiet area that i can have somewhere outside to lie down when i feel unwell rather than be inside for months on end when i am in pain . i have months when i am in accute pain . i have also been recently diagnosed with a kidney disease and diabetes. i am 44 married and have an 11yr old daughter at home . she has two rabbits and two guni pigs . who she shows and has won prizes for looking after them. she deserves to have a nice garden as she cant go out much after school as she helps look after me until her dad finishes work she never complains , she has a fantastic sence of humor and cheers me up all the time.
please give us all a garden make over it really would make a difference to our lives .

  • Teresa Compton

Hi i am a 44 yr old lady with a spinal cord injury and recently been diagnosed with a kidney disease and diabetes. We moved into a bungalow two years ago which has a lovely sized garden but i am unable to do any gardening due to not being able to bend. which is so frustrating as i used to love gardening . sadly my husband hates gardening so it is just a grass lawn.
i would love to have a garden makeover . one that would enable me to be able to get involved in the maintnence of my garden again whilst making the garden an interesting space to enjoy as an extention of the house. . we dont spend much time in the garden as there is just nothing interestiong going on.
i spend loads of time in bed due to being in pain or feeling ill. and it would be great to spend time relaxing in the garden on a garden bed rather than being indoors all the time.
    please can you help .

Our Garden Club is teaching disadvantaged people how to grow their own fruit and vegetables alongside a drop-in centre providing meals, job-club, art courses, ESOL and advocacy. We already work with local people alongside offenders producing fresh fruit, vegetables and eggs to feed the homeless, but this is a new initiative where we teach people to feed themselves. Our group of ten amazing participants have achieved a huge amount in a very short time and would be encouraged enormously to be part of a project involving acknowledged professionals.

  • Rev. David Gray

Growing Faith in Community produces fresh fruit, veg and eggs to feed homeless and other vulnerable people through a network of drop-in and outreach projects. We work with local volunteers and offenders.
Our newest project is centred beside a church that offers job-club, art courses and ESOL alongside hot meals. I’m working with a mixed team of ten people to teach them horticultural skills. They are so positive and have achieved a great deal in a relatively short time. It would be wonderful for them to have the additional input of professionals to affirm and shape the direction this project is going in.
    Thank you.

We live on the west coast of Scotland in Argyll. Our garden is quite large and semi wild, with lots of trees and wild plants/weeds and faces south-ish!! Our ‘sort of’ lawn goes down to the sea so we are very exposed and have no idea what kind of plants grow well in this type of environment. I would love a garden with perhaps raised beds somwhere which we could look after, with a small vegetable patch if possible. We also have a large run down garage and lean to.

I have a long narrow garden which I find hard to maintain, it has a couple of different levels with a bit of lawn and some flower beds down the sides of the fences. I work really long hours and need something that is very easy to look after, was thinking that paving most of it with some nice pots should do the job. Are you able t help me?

we’ve just put a fence at the back. We have a shed and a path (which is full of weeds, 3 flower borders which are also full of weeds )and that’s in. Help is desperately needed. We are East facing and would love an area for a table . We would love a beautiful garden.
