BBC Gardeners’ World host Monty Don is to pen a book about his four-legged
co-presenter, Nigel.

The TV star’s golden retriever has a huge fan base. Nigel regularly appears on camera, trotting around Monty’s garden called Longmeadow, in Herefordshire.

Nigel has his own Twitter and Facebook profiles, run by fans, and “gets more mail and Christmas cards than the rest of the Don family put together,” according to publishers.

Monty said: “I have always had a dog, or dogs. I cannot imagine life without them. I am just as much a fan of Nigel than any besotted viewer.

“In the book I explore why we love dogs and what they mean to us emotionally and domestically. I look back on all the dogs in my life.

“So this is the book of Nigel –but also the book of all our dogs in every British family and a celebration of the deep love we feel for them,” Monty added.

Nigel: My Family and Other Dogs will be published by Two Roads Books in September 2016.
