TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh is backing a Christmas campaign aimed at raising money for kids whose lives are blighted by poverty.

ITV Love Your Garden host Alan  is supporting Christingle, a festive campaign that’s run by The Children’s Society.

For 40 years, Christingle events across the UK have seen kids decorate oranges with a red ribbon, cocktail sticks and sweets, as well as a candle – to highlight different parts of the Christian story.

The candles then illuminate events at schools and churches.

Former Ground Force presenter Alan said: “For many of us, Christmas is a time that conjures up images of plenty. Lots of presents, food and cosy warmth. For millions of children in the UK, this is a seemingly impossible dream.”

Appealing to gardeners to donate to local Christingle events, Alan added: “They are heart-warming events and a wonderful opportunity to help raise money for families who are struggling to make ends meet.”
