Organic gardener Bob Flowerdew has joined social networking site Twitter.
AG’s Bob is one of a number of stars who offer followers an insight into their lives via social media.
Other high-profile Tweeters include Gardeners’ World presenter Monty Don
and The One Show gardener Christine Walkden.
Bob said he never wanted to Tweet as he was so busy – but kept getting asked to join.
He said: “Many people thought what I was doing would be of interest. Most mentioned that they love AG as it is their aide memoir and stops them forgetting current gardening tasks.
He added: “Twitter is a way to report up-to-date progress. It’s a shame it’s so few characters [Tweets can only be up to 140 characters] but it keeps me concise.”
The BBC Radio 4 Gardeners’ Question Time panellist is tweeting using the address of @FlowerdewBob.
One of Bob’s most recent Tweets read: “Becoming a ‘good’ gardener is simply learning not to become a plant hypochondriac, and to distinguish real problems from little annoyances.”
There are great gardening tips as well, including which varieties of potatoes have performed best in Bob’s garden, with pictures. Follow him here.
Followers will see behind-the-scenes pictures from GQT recordings, including Bob receiving a massage from Anne Swithinbank!
Bob also launched his new website, which can be found at www.bobflowerdew.com.
He promised it is accessible to “non-geeks” and said it includes details of his CV, books, lectures available, a history of the Flowerdews, a calendar of garden tasks and a list of the greatest books he’s ever read.
