Seed and plant specialist Thompson & Morgan this morning (1 April) revealed it has carried out a floral makeover of Suffolk's Orwell Bridge.
The firm installed 160 spring hanging baskets which line 2.4km of the landmark river crossing, creating a dazzling display of colour above the River Orwell.
T&M created the spectacle to mark its 160 years as a mail-order supplier to amateur gardeners.
The company’s horticultural director Paul Hansord said: “We’re world renowned for our seasonal bedding and basket plants, so what better way to celebrate a landmark birthday and a long history in Ipswich than with a display of what we do best?”
Mr Hansord plans to contact Guinness World Records to see if the company has unwittingly set a new world record.
The company’s staff used 5,760 violas to fill the hanging baskets, using a whopping 3,200 litres of the firm’s new Incredicompost.
Heavy-duty brackets were set at 8m intervals on both sides of the bridge to evenly space the 160 floral baskets along the 1,287m expanse.
An automatic watering system draws 480 gallons of water from the river each day to keep the hanging baskets watered.
