Hillier, the nursery with 66 consecutive gold medals to its name, plans to fly the flag for the sport of fencing at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
The grower will stage a garden in the Great Pavilion to celebrate the sport shortly before the 2012 London Olympics gets underway.
Hillier’s exhibit is also a tribute to the Queen who is the patron of British fencing. Her Majesty will celebrate her Diamond Jubilee in June.
Live fencing contests by members of the Beazley British Fencing Team will take place on the exhibit.
The display will also be the venue for the launch of a new plant from Hillier – Choisya ‘Aztec Gold’.
It is claimed to be more weather-resistant and bushier than existing varieties and was bred by Alan Postill, who joined Hillier as an apprentice 50 years ago.
