Gardening is to get its own version of Comic Relief.
The first Garden Re-Leaf Day will take place on 13 March with a nationwide programme of fund-raising events aimed at gardeners of all levels of expertise.
All proceeds will be donated to Greenfingers, the garden industry charity that creates gardens at children’s hospices.
Organiser Boyd Douglas-Davies said Garden Re-Leaf had been inspired by Comic Relief.
“It’s an opportunity for the [garden] industry to make a national statement, to engage at local level and to launch the season in a way never seen before,” Boyd said.
Alan Titchmarsh pledged support. “It’s a wonderful idea which will encourage every company in the garden industry to take part, have fun and raise as much money as possible for Greenfingers.”
