A statue commissioned by late Gardeners’ World presenter Geoff Hamilton has been stolen from Barnsdale Gardens in Rutland.
The statue was the centrepiece of Geoff’s Reclaimed Garden, the last plot he built at Barnsdale in 1996, the year of his death.
Named Maurice by Barnsdale staff, the statue symbolised Geoff’s passion for recycling. It was made from old tractor and lawnmower parts.
“The police have told us it would only be worth £20 if it was sold for scrap, but to us it was priceless,” said Geoff’s son Nick Hamilton.
“Because it was the last item my father had built for the gardens, its loss is particularly heart-wrenching.”
