A chocolate flaked sweet pea has been named in honour of race horse trainer Sir Henry Cecil, who died in June.

Lady Cecil launched the new sweet pea ‘Sir Henry Cecil’

Sir Henry’s career at Newmarket spanned more than 40 years.

He won 3,431 races worldwide, 25 British Classic races and had 75 successes at Royal Ascot.

Launching the sweet pea, which is exclusive to Mr Fothergill’s, Lady Jane Cecil (pictured) said Sir Henry would have been “honoured”.

Boss John Fothergill said: “We knew Sir Henry loved his flower garden as a form of relaxation from the pressure of training racehorses, so we were honoured when Lady Cecil agreed to our request to name a new variety.”

A packet of sweet pea ‘Sir Henry Cecil’ costs £1.99.
