Michelle shows the correct way to use a buckle tree tie
It is important to correctly place tree ties. If they are not attached properly to the tree and the post, they can cause injury to the bark, increasing the risk of weather, disease and pest damage. I like to use ‘buckle’ tree ties, commonly sold in garden centres.
(1) Feed the end through the buckle to make a loop, then feed it through the clasp to make another loop. This gives you two loops.
(2) Once practiced, undo and repeat making the first loop around the tree, the second around the stake, tightening both loops via the clasp.
(3) Tighten until tree is firm, but bark is not cut by the strap. Adjust the strap as the tree trunk grows so it does not cut into the bark.
