Consumer editor Julia Heaton finds out which lawn and border edgers are best for maintaining clean straight lines as well as the more curvaceous designs
BEST BUY IS FOREST BORDER SECTION
£7.99 per m forestgarden.co.uk/stockistasp
BUILD **** Put together using pressure treated wood accredited with the Forest Stewardship Council, it is guaranteed against rot for 15 years. Sections feel solidly manufactured.
FEATURES **** Measuring 100cm (l) x 15cm (h), two 30cm long end posts are pointed for easy installation and hold 15 x 15cm half round logs nailed onto two rear batons. Each section is simply butted up to the previous one to form a straight run.
PERFORMANCE**** Unlike the other five edgings on trial Border Sections sit on top of the soil to form a small retaining wall. They can be installed right up to the lawn edge but this would require trimming with a nylon cord machine. Far better to set them a little further back into the border and have an edging gap between the sections and grass. They looked superb and were useful for preventing sloping beds eroding onto the lawn.
VALUE**** Each section works out at £7.99 per metre run which is a fair price. Put together using pressure treated wood accredited with the Forest Stewardship Council, it is guaranteed against rot for 15 years. Sections feel solidly manufactured.
