Michelle checks over her standard wisteria

Back in summer (AG 21 July) I wrote about training a wisteria as a standard. Not forgotten, but left to grow, a few days ago I decided to make sure it was happy and healthy in its pot.

Pleasingly, in just a few months, the stem had grown and all the ties used to keep it straight needed adjusting or replacing. A new tie was added to support new top growth, and I checked over the wooden support to make sure it was stable ahead of any severe  weather to come.

In early spring I will top dress the wisteria in its pot with new compost and give it a balanced feed of fish, blood and bone.
